So, I was bored at work the other day and thought I’d skim through the news and all its food articles, which is when I came across something so absurd and unbelievable, I couldn’t digest that people actually believed these things! The article was about… Brace yourselves… It was about how Kurkure causes abortions. Wait, what? Abortions? From a 10 ruppee bag of chips?
Now I have heard other rumors, like how Kurkure burns or that it contains plastic and I never really bothered with those allegations because they actually seemed silly enough to be brushed away. But for people to really believe a chip can cause an abortion and then go out there and tweet about it and write about it in an effort to convince other consumers that this fact is true, is beyond me.
I think the new age idea that people have, of how they feel they are allowed to deface a brand and spread such false rumors is a complete misuse of the power of being able to put your views on a social space and have the freedom of being heard. Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m not a fan of the brand, but neither do I hate it. To me, it is just another chips brand on the shelves at grocery stores that sits right next to the Lays and the Pringles. To know that educated parts of society believe this, without any concrete proof, I feel is going to be the downfall of our society. People believing they are allowed to voice every belief and voice it in a way where they’re trying to get everyone to believe they’re right… It’s just so absurd.
Abortion is a very sensitive topic and to take that and put such a huge allegation on a food brand, saying the brand causes this horrible health issue is defamation on another level and should not be entertained or believed so easily by the common public. I know this might seem like word vomit and it probably is, but it somehow struck a chord in me and I felt the importance of letting you guys know that none of us should ever believe whatever we read online, unless there is some proof and some kind of truth to it.
