Diwali is a time of celebrations and families coming together. It’s that time of year where guests show up at your doorstep with sweets and well wishes, unannounced. Whether it’s that newly married couple from across the hall, the old couple living alone on the ground floor, or cousins that have traveled from the other side of the city to come and wish you, Kurkure is a must have! As much as Diwali is about sweets, it’s also about something Chatpata, which is personally my favorite part.
Kurkure has been a staple in my household over the years, and no matter who comes over, they are always happy to be served a big bowl of Kurkure! Even though there are rumors swirling around the brand regarding it containing plastic and what not, my family and I have been eating Kurkure for years now and have faced no negative implications because of it. From where I come from, Kurkure has been a companion of every Indian household for years. Parties, get togethers, tea time, with meals, mid day break, you name it and Kurkure is a part of it. With all the controversy, I still can’t get myself to stop buying or eating this yummy snack. Not only is it a personal favorite, it also has a lot of memories attached to it for me, as it probably does for every Indian kid growing up in the 90s.
When we went to school and opened our lunch boxes to find Kurkure, the excitement of eating it and sharing it with our close friends is something I still vividly remember! Even with all the negativity surrounding the brand, I still don’t think any of it is true and I think it is complete defamation of Kurkure’s image, for people to put things like that out there. I have read several articles that talk about how Kurkure has been tested and given the green signal of approval, regarding claims that it contains plastic or that if pregnant women eat Kurkure, they will give birth to plastic babies. Like that’s even possible?! Anyway, to me Kurkure has always been one of those nostalgia inducing snacks that I will continue to buy and continue to eat and serve to anyone who walks into my home. Because, what better way to welcome a guest than with a nice big bowl of Kurkure?!
